Significance: These duplexes embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, and method of construction. Compared to the other houses in the neighborhood, these have the simplest architectural detailing and the most alterations. However, the alterations relating to the adaptive reuse of Bachelor Officers' Quarters into Family Quarters are significant for their association with the patterns of military housing. The design of these duplexes, like other housing in the neighborhood, was influenced by the mainland Craftsman style and Hawaii's plantation housing. Only five examples of this building type are located in the 700-800 neighborhood, making it one of the two most uncommon building types. Two other examples of this type are in the 400-500 neighborhood at Schofield Barracks. It appears that this duplex type is unique to the installation. ...
